It all started in 2010 with alterIWnet, the first modding project behind Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and later Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. The brains behind it was the talented modder NTAuthority. The project was a huge success and got a lot of attention, perhaps a little too much. Two years after the launch, the publisher Activision issued a cease and desist letter and the project had to shut down its services. In the same year, the team behind alterIWnet founded a successor project called fourDeltaOne, which was also a huge success. Revolutionary progress was made with IW4M and other clients such as Black Ops (T5M), Black Ops 2 (T6M) and the experimental client Warfare². However, a few months later the project met the same fate, Activision issued another cease and desist letter and the project had to close its doors. Somehow the source code of the modded clients was leaked and some new projects offered the services as before, but with one major difference, they were not able to further develop the clients. The names of the Copy&Paste clients are not relevant. Some groups tried to continue the development but there were no relevant successes for years. When everyone thought it was over, a capable group called React took on the task of continuing the evolution of the IW4M client, which later became IW4x. From this project, the modding group Xlabs emerged, which added new clients such as Ghosts (IW6x) and Advanced Warfare (S1x) to the game. Parallel to the continuation of IW4M, another capable modding group called Plutonium pushed ahead with the further development of Modern Warfare 3 (IW5M) and Black Ops 2 (T6M). This was later followed by other clients such as Black Ops (T5M) and World at War (T4M).
